Nichijou Wiki

This is the Nichijou Wiki's Rules page, which states the way user's should conduct themselves the site, and the expectations that will help different users to participate together in this ongoing project. Please take your time. Thank you for visiting and being nice.

Most importantly, this site records the contents of official media and related side media in an informative and accessible way. When possible, always refer to the official translation, such as for the anime and manga. Fan translations can be good, but may be confusingly inconsistent between several independent versions.

Rules in this wiki are similar to those in Wikipedia, but simplified. To see those rules, please click here.

Hello Editors!

This site was made with care from people adding fun facts and small corrections, and some writing articles and coding complex website elements. The most important thing is to do what interests you at your own pace! This is about fans enjoying the series, and interacting with other users. Some users have big ambitions, and want to do a lot for the site. This a hobby to enjoy, this wiki started in 2011, and it takes time to make high quality articles, building bits at a time. Writing about the series, even with misspellings or unclear sentences, will be appreciated and be reworked by other editors in time.

Guidelines

Here are some key guidelines that any editor should follow, for any wiki. You shouldn't read all of this, just remember that being collaborative, accurate, consistent and respectful is all that you need! When you're not sure if what you're doing is right or acceptable, check back to this page.

Jump right in! Don't be afraid to get started. Anyone is free to edit here, so simply click edit and get started! Our community sites are places to have fun, meet new people, and learn more about your favorite topics. There is serious work to be done, but you should always remember to enjoy what you are doing!

Collaboration is key. Wikis are based on the idea that the crowd, collectively, has a greater sum of knowledge than just one individual. That means collaborating with others is the key to creating a successful community. Collaboration means you work together to build, design, and make decisions. No one person owns or rules a community site. Rather, it is built, supported, and owned by all participating community members. If you are confused or need help, just ask! There is help you can look for all around you on Fandom, including on help pages, Central Discussions, local admins and staff.

Practice open-mindedness & assume good faith. Since sites are open to edit by anyone, users of all skill levels and opinions are welcome to participate. We assume that most people who work on a wiki are trying to help it, not hurt it. If this weren't true, a project would be doomed from the beginning. If you think there is a problem, it's best to ask the user about the issue first, then take any additional steps if need be.

Be nice. Being friendly and nice goes a long way, no matter where you are. Say hello to others, provide help where you can, and ask others if you need assistance. Simply being nice can greatly impact the growth and success of a community. Everyone has to start somewhere, so if you meet a new user who by accident made an improper edit, be nice! It's better to help explain what they did wrong, so they can learn from you, than to leave them a mean message. Remember back to when you were new and how far friendly advice can go.

Don't plagiarize content. If you are bringing content to Fandom or taking it from here (or to another site), please remember to cite the authors properly. Don't assume that everything on the Internet is open for the taking. Make sure you have permission to use something before you copy it, and follow the rules for attribution when you do reuse. Everyone likes credit for their hard work!

Always remember online communities still involve real people. Even though you are online, this is still a community made up of real people. Mean comments, aggressive behavior, and vandalism all affect real people. If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it here. If it breaks the Terms of Use, please don't say it at all. It's best to be calm and limit contact with vandals, because the less attention they get, the more likely they are to move on.

Spread the word! A community is only as strong as all of its members. The more it has, the stronger (and more successful) it will become. So invite your friends, family, schoolmates, and others who may be interested. Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, forums, blogs on the same topic or any place where people who are interested may hang out.

Article

A big site with so many pages like this, with many different editors, needs a standard on what a good article should look and read like. The Nichijou Wiki was made with a simple article layout that anyone can edit, mostly without the use of templates. The goal is to make things easy to understand and to read, so the story Nichijou can be shared more easily with others.

Topic

The Nichijou Wiki is a website dedicated to the Nichijou series and its official media. Articles can only be created if they are relevant to the World, Characters, or Media categories and are deemed important enough to receive their own page. Links to Wikipedia can be used when other topics are mentioned in other articles. Only make articles for subjects which are of notable standard.

Writing

Try to follow the subject of the articles when you edit. It's okay to write in an unfinished way, because your knowledge being shared is the purpose of the site, but other editors should help to make things consistent. These pages can get messy when making them, but it's best to be consistent with the majority of other articles.

The wiki has content which are summaries, so that people can understand the story details easily and efficiently. Please try to use plain language and a neutral tone, and use short paragraphs so that sections of the information are easier to find. Check to see if other people can read it easily, not everyone is a native English user. Use images on the right side, of around 200px size so that it doesn't get in the way of the text.

Formatting

Main Article: Wiki Formatting Policy

Use infoboxes and nav boxes, and be consistent with other articles. Keep it simple, don't make templates or variations for one time use to avoid confusion with users. The infoboxes here are quite long, so don't use a clear template underneath the table of contents, putting the text underneath the infobox makes a massive gap in the page. It's better to let the text go up, even if it appears squished.

You'll need to use your discretion in placing images in suitable places relevant to the text. In the articles, try placing sequential images next to each other in the source code, so the paragraph text doesn't go into the small gaps made between the images. If an Image Gallery has an exceptional amount of images that makes the page too long and difficult to navigate, consider using the Template:Scroll box to house the galleries. See Nichijou Episode 0/Image Gallery as an example, which uses 500px height size.

Notice

Here are some meta-templates which indicate the work that is needed to complete the article, and organise pages into maintenance categories for the convenience of editors.

Conduct

  • Constructiveness: Everything should either build the wiki or build the wiki's community. Anything that helps neither, such as adding nonsense or misinformation to articles, does not belong on the wiki and will be removed.
  • Civility: Editors of the wiki should be civil to one another, even when they disagree. When disputes arise, editors should attempt to find consensus and to resolve the problem cooperatively. Editors should not insult each other or call each other names.
  • Neutrality: Content on the wiki should be free of bias so that the readers, not the editors, can decide whether something is good, bad, or neither.
  • No Ownership: This wiki, including each piece of content on the wiki, belongs to the community as a whole - not to any user or contributor. Further, any user can edit any page on the wiki (such edits must, of course, adhere to the guidelines as stated above).

Rules for Handling Misbehavior

Users who violate the main rules will be warned that they are violating the rules and will eventually be banned if they cause enough trouble. Users who make small-scale violations will be warned four times before being banned (in chat, warned three times, then kicked once, then chat-banned). Users who make greater violations or violate the rules after being banned for rule violations will get fewer warnings before being kicked or banned. The duration of the ban will depend on the severity of the offense, and how many times that user has been banned before.

Violations that warrant four warnings include: good-faith Constructiveness violations (users harming the wiki when they mean to be helping), being mildly insulting (Civility violation), Neutrality violations, and No Ownership violations. Violations that warrant fewer warnings include bad-faith Constructiveness violations (deliberate attempts to harm the site, also known as trolling or vandalism, these will receive only one warning) and harsher insults (three to one warnings, depending on the severity of the insults; no warnings will be given for certain threats). How mild or harsh insults count as depends on the case in question, and cannot be easily explained here without violating the rules laid out on this page.

If you see something inappropriate, please report it to the admins.
