Tokoroten[]

Tokoroten is a pinkish jelly noodle food made from algae. Tokoroten does not have a strong flavor so it is usually eaten as a side dish, it should also be eaten slowly. Slurping tokoroten like noodles will allow vinegar particles to enter the respiratory tract, causing you to choke.

Apple Bunnies[]

In Japan, it is common to cut apples to be shaped like bunnies. This is done by cutting the apple into thin wedges, then cutting a v-shape into the skin of the apple and peeling it from the inside of the V. This makes the skin resemble rabbit ears. Kids like it.

Melonpan[]

Melonpan is a sweet bread sold in basically every conbini in Japan. Soft and chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside, sprinkled with crystalized sugar, and it tastes nothing like watermelon. The expiration date is usually written on the bag, rather than the bread itself.

Octopus Sausage[]

Ocotopus-shaped sausages are a popular bento food. They are made cutting a cross into the bottom of a sausage, then spread the "legs" apart and press them into a frying pan, making them hold their shape. The sausages are fried in oil, so they can be quite slippery.

Omurice[]

Omurice is an omelette folded over on rice, or an omelette on rice. It is sometimes erroneously claimed to be the most difficult omelette to make. Omurice is commonly eaten in households across Japan.

Raw Salmon[]

Raw salmon is often eaten on sushi. It can also be made into cooked salmon by cooking it.

Twice-cooked Pork[]

Yuuko makes twice-cooked port for Mio in Episode 6. She puts in too much miso which overpowers the dish. Twice-cooked pork is a Chinese dish made by simmering, refrigerating, then frying the pork in a stir fry. It is considered a difficult dish to make.

Tako Wasabi[]

Tako Wasabi, also known as octopus wasabi, is octopus mixed with wasabi. It is often eaten with rice and sake. Generally does not make a good birthday present.

Nikuman[]

Originating in China, Baozi, known in Japan as nikuman, are commonly sold in convenience stores throughout Japan. They usually consist of steamed dough stuffed with ground pork or beef. They usually eaten as a high-calorie snack food, serving as a light lunch or breakfast.
