Dolph (called "Lord Dolph" by Number 20), is a side character who only appears in Episode 7 aboard the Airship. He is the commander of the Fey Kingdom's Royal Army, and a former close adviser to King Albert. In his first and only appearance, Dolph is seen betraying the King, who had taken Dolph in as an orphan and raised him as his own. Despite this Dolph would organise a rebellion aboard the airship, revealing that his plan was to steal Princess Starla's Wooden Cubes. The cubes would allow him to "resurrect the ancient weapon" and therefore allow him to become Fey Kingdom's new king. Dolph's plans come to an abrupt end when he trips over his own feet and instantly dies.[1]
Appearance[]
Dolph has short brown hair, which is neatly parted, and he wears a well fitted grey suit with a red tie and black shoes. His eyes are drawn angular and irregular, and he often wears a smug smile.
Background[]
Dolph mocks Princess Starla
Appearing only in Yuuko's daydream about the Fey Kingdom, little is known about Dolph as he only briefly appears for a single episode. Despite this he is given a brief background in the chapter he appears in, being previously close to King Albert, to the extent the former had no idea about his coup before it was too late. Albert apparently took Dolph in and raised him, even making him commander of the Royal Army, placing a huge amount of trust into him. Trust, that Dolph would later exploit when they went on a journey around the world.
Personality[]
In his short appearance Dolph is presented as ambitious and comically evil: He seems to care little about familial ties, casting aside all the King did for him, and later even casually telling him to "start composing your death poem", showing a certain callousness and sense of cruelty, all in pursuit of being the eventual ruler of the Fey Kingdom. While he does tell his soldiers to hold back on killing the princess, this is solely due to the fact she might have the Wooden Cube he needs, and its implied he planned on executing her afterwards. Dolph also seems to have an immense ego and faith in himself calling his rebellion "a righteous judgement" handed down to King Albert by the gods[2], displaying a sense of greed despite already being in a position of power. Despite this he does seem to have some mercy: As previously mentioned he deliberately instructed his soldiers not to attack Starla. He also seems to have a certain level of charisma, being able to convince the Fey Kingdom Soldiers to turn against the Princess and King Albert, although they quickly switch sides upon realisation of his death. It's possible Dolph's portrayal and uneventful and anticlimactic death is a parody of stereotypical villains found in various stories.
